Take a look at some of the amazing projects we've worked on together in our group courses and 1:1 sessions

Exploring Landscapes

Landscapes offer a limitless source of inspiration, with many artists drawing from specific parts of the world to inspire their creativity. In the classes, we explore a variety of environments, teaching diverse methods and techniques to help students fully engage with the natural world. Always emphasising the importance of keeping a sketchbook handy and encourage students to get outside and draw, continuing their exploration beyond the class.

Reimagining Van Gogh and Kahlo

Vincent van Gogh and Frida Kahlo are iconic artists for a reason, their talent and deep understanding of their practice set them apart. In these two separate projects, we don't just study and replicate their work; instead, we use it as inspiration to create something new.

We begin by exploring van Gogh's remarkable mark-making techniques in pencil, delve into his self-portraits, and then bring those concepts to life with paint, focusing on layers, colours, and movement. Finally, drawing inspiration from contemporary immersive exhibitions, we translate these ideas into a 3D immersive artwork, reimagining their masterpieces in a fresh and creative way.

We took the traditional grid drawing method for portraiture and added our own twist by replacing straight lines with curved ones. This created a playful distortion, transforming Frida Kahlo into imaginative new characters. While the grid method is typically rigid, we embraced loose, flowing lines for a more relaxed and creative outcome. After closely studying Frida Kahlo's features, we brought her portrait to life in 3D by crafting a cardboard sculpture. We focused on texture and layering to achieve an intriguing and dynamic final piece.

Still Life & Observational Drawing

Observational and Still life drawing are essential to artistic development, as they teach artists to truly see, understand, and translate the world around them. These practices help specific skills, encouraging students to move beyond realism and explore the essence of their subject matter. The goal isn’t just to replicate what’s in front of them, but to study the underlying forms and bring them to life in unique and expressive ways. Through these projects, students develop their ability to see beyond the surface, creating a deeper connection to their work.

Animal Kingdom

Animals are a timeless subject that captures the imagination at any age, from childhood to adulthood. With endless ways to explore this theme, we always find a lot of fun in the creative process.
